The transformation of a Washington Street building formerly occupied by a long line of restaurants is difficult to ignore.
Eric Quan bought the property previously occupied by Cubby’s Clubhouse, Jordano’s Pasta Grill and Justin’s Hearthside at 871 Washington St. (Route 53) in June 2010 with the sole mission of opening his fourth Asian-inspired Quan’s Kitchen restaurant.
The 12,000-square-foot restaurant features Chinese food, a 15-seat sushi bar, a function room and a lounge with flat-screen televisions.
“ ... I looked at this building and knew it was in a great location, and five years later we made it happen,” said Quan, who also owns Quan’s Kitchen restaurants in Mansfield, North Attleboro and Weymouth. The Norton resident launched the business in 1995 in Mansfield.
The façade of the Hanover property features stonework and a warm color palette. Inside, Quan’s photography is accompanied by works from renowned photographers Edward Weston and Ansel Adams. “When I built this restaurant, I put a lot of my personal life in here,” Quan said of his decision to fuse his culinary and photography passions. “This (restaurant) is from my heart.”
The ambience of Quan’s Kitchen is only one aspect of the culinary experience, he said. Quality, presentation, appearance and service are the four key elements to success,” Quan said. “If anyone can do all four things together, they are going to go to the next level.” The menu includes traditional favorites such as rice and lo mein dishesand Pu-Pu platters as well as health-oriented dishes, Japanese appetizers and maki and temaki sushi.
“I am going to change the way people eat around here with home-style cooking like Chinese people eat at home,” Quan said.
